Ivy & Cobblestone
October 14, 1924
"The journey begins where the Republic first drew breath. I've titled this first ledger Ivy & Cobblestone, for it is here that tradition remains etched in the ground. Walking through Boston at dusk, my boots found the rhythm of of the old stones, worn smooth by a century of footfalls.
To my left, the great university walls were draped in heavy ivy, a living tapestry of the intellect and order that built this region .From the granite coasts of Maine down to the bustling docks of Maryland, there is a sense of permanence here. It is the crucible of our history, polished but firm. My bag is packed, the foundations are laid. Tomorrow, I turn my back to the Atlantic and seek the smoke and silt of the interior."
